FAQs
Are veneers permanent?
Yes - veneers are considered a permanent dental treatment because the process involves removing a small amount of natural enamel that cannot be replaced.
While the porcelain shell itself will eventually need to be replaced (usually after 10–15 years), the tooth will always require a restoration (either a new veneer or a crown) to protect it and look natural.
Do veneers look natural?
Yes - modern porcelain veneers are custom-crafted to mimic the light-reflecting properties, translucency, and subtle textures of real tooth enamel.
Because we work with master dental technicians, we can control every tiny detail. We don't just pick a "white"; we design a tooth that has the same character as a natural one.
Do veneers stain?
No - porcelain is a non-porous material, meaning it is incredibly resistant to staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and even tobacco.
Because the surface of a veneer is glass-like and glazed at extremely high temperatures in a lab, pigments cannot penetrate the material. This is why veneers stay bright and white for years, even if you are a frequent coffee drinker.
Is the procedure painful?
No - the procedure is typically pain-free. We use local anaesthetic to ensure you are completely numb during the preparation phase, so you won’t feel a thing.
For most patients, the sensation is similar to having a standard filling. After the numbing wears off, any discomfort is usually very mild and easily managed with over-the-counter relievers.
How many veneers do I need?
This depends entirely on your goals. We can fit a single veneer to repair a damaged tooth, or a set of 6 to 10 for a full cosmetic makeover.
Most people don't actually need a "full mouth" of veneers. Instead, we look at your "Social Six" or "Aesthetic Eight"—the teeth that make the biggest impact on your appearance.
Can veneers break?
Yes - while rare, veneers can chip or crack if they are subjected to extreme force, such as accidental trauma or long-term teeth grinding.
Think of a veneer like a high-tech glass shield for your tooth. It is designed to be tough, but it isn't indestructible. Because it is bonded to your natural tooth, it relies on that underlying structure for its overall strength.
Do veneers require special care?
Mostly no - you should continue to brush and floss daily, but you’ll need to be mindful of the types of products you use and certain "heavy-duty" habits.
The goal is to keep the gum line healthy and the porcelain glaze smooth. If the gums recede due to poor cleaning, the edge of the veneer (where it meets the tooth) can become visible or vulnerable to decay.
Can veneers be replaced?
Yes - veneers can be replaced if they become chipped, stained at the edges, or if they no longer match your aesthetic goals after 10–15 years.
Most patients will need to replace their veneers at least once or twice in their lifetime.
